Sorry, I don’t think I was very clear before. The car passed the emmisions test on the second test without problem. The first garage refused to complete the test due to supspect noise from the engine which has never been evident before and when tested again by a friend of a friend who is a Technician for a main dealer, he said it was very unlikely that the car would have made the noise they spoke of and make 3 black marks on the floor of the garage a foot apart. When asked to retest they refused using the ‘The tester must refuse to test your vehicle if he thinks that the smoke test may damage your engine loop hole’ and suggested the car was taken to a garage  opposite them for a timing belt (saying the garage name like they weren’t completely sure of it.)

It had no work done to it and the next day passed on the emmissions and the engine declared “SWEET”, only having done 84k I would hope so too.

Yes the car does kick out a bit of smoke occasionally, but so do most diesels of that age. But it definately doesn’t bang, clank or scream on high revs like they suggested.
