Ok Big E, your now seeing what I am trying to explain, its not about personnel opinion, but to standardise thinking and applying common standards across the country. (3.5.1g) will permit a tester to fail the brake fluid presence if so required, but the rolling road brake test results are invaluable.

Anybody can almost get approval to carry out mot testing by passing the VOSA exam, but you can’t teach a person good quality experience from training, this is only the first step into learning how to do a job. The reason we have a testers manual and all the reasons for rejections put there for us is to standardise the scheme, so opinions become more even across the country.

I have spoke a lot about braking system results and what can be understood from them, but I feel testers are still leaning towards all brakes having to be like new to pass the test. Some testers are still using their own opinions when making decisions, which I have said that they are not a part of the test requirement, nobody can judge a book by its cover, and nobody can understand it unless they keep on using it daily to standardise methods of testing, this is not to say your not already doing it.
