One of the rear doors is faulty becasue it is jammed shut and it won’t open from the outside or inside. All other doors open and close ok.

The mechanic at my local garage said the car would fail the MOT because the faulty rear door would need to open from either the inside or outside for it to pass. I have heard evidence both for and against this from a number of different sources. Can anyone confirm that this is an MOT fail?

Officially, the car would be a refusal to test because ALL doors, bonnet and boot must open to give access to testable items.
Can the rear belts/seats be accessed from the front  or opposite side door ?..If so no probs….BTW Assessor, how would you test rear belts on a 3-door model??Or would you FAIL it..?…               Every  3 door car FAILS????….
Hi Big E, are we getting confused here, the seat belts are not in question, the introduction in the manual (2g) advises that it would be a refusal to test if; A proper examination cannot be carried out because any door, tailgate, engine cover, fuel cap, or other device designed to be readily opened cannot be readily opened.

So, if a door cannot be readily opened, you could use another door to gain access, but, you cannot inspect the door pillars for fractures?

With regards your 3 – door model, say the Corsa B with known fractures that do occur in the B Posts, if the door will not open it must be refused to test. If all doors open and the reclining seats do not permit access to the rear seats/belts, this would be a refusal to test.

Hope this clears up any misunderstanding.
