Hi I am trying to book an MOT for my Defender 130 Single Cab, plated at 3500kg. As a single cab, there is no second row of seats only driver and passenger and as a Defender there is permanent 4 wheel drive.

The vehicle would have left the factory as a chassis-cab and then been fitted out by the electricity board or whoever so the unladen weight is not known. It is now an aluminium flatbed.

To meet the definition of a dual purpose vehicle, it needs either the second row of seats OR 4 wheel drive. I am being told by various garages that it is not dual purpose because it does not have the second row of seats and so must be Class 7.

I have read the Special Notice 02-17.

So, is my Defender Class 4 or Class 7 for it’s MOT ?

Thank you
