I’m sorry if I come across as snooty, but I hope you realise it is only because as testers we get this all the time. Now as for just advising the other items after he had failed the arms, I’m afraid he’s not allowed to. All defect items carry a defect rating of minor, major or dangerous, and once an MOT has commenced we have to inspect everything and give an accurate report on the condition of all testable items. As well as the negative opinions of the public, we are also, believe it or nor not, under threat of disciplinary action from DVSA for not recording defects classified as minor. We have targets painted on us and are under fire from both directions. We are always wrong in somebody’s eyes, and now and again this will get a negative reaction from me.That target thing was a bit dramatic, granted,but you get what I mean I’m sure.
