Hi all.

Have an old mini. Austin type. Not bmw.

There is a tiny hole in the sill not far from where the rear wheel arch starts.

My question is…

Is it acceptable to lap weld a patch (entire perimeter of patch) if appearance isn’t an issue or must a new piece of metal be butt welded?

My reasoning is that if I can cut the rot out myself I can save on cost there and also on fabrication time for the new piece. My main concern is getting it roadworthy. it’s no show car.
