Many thanks for your response, the online mot manual doesn’t make it clear that it can be given as an advisory if deemed just noisy rather than excessively noisy… thanks for clarifying and i totally understand about the lack of equipment etc…
Out of interest do you have someone else holding the car at the required revs while you listen from outside or do you have to make the judgement while inside the car?
