its measured as an imaginary ball from the component/area concerned,anything within that area on a monocoque(generally)would fail if it met the criteria so as a sphere it would total 60 cm end to end with the centre being 30 cm in,seperate chassis/body constructions carry different criteria,refer to the test manual for fuller details particularly the appendix on corrosion
