I am thinking of buying a motorhome, based on a Ford Transit. It is being advertised as having covered 39k miles since new in 2007, which does not seem unreasonable for this type of vehicle. The condition of the van also seems to suggest that this mileage is correct. I checked on the check mot service and was shocked at what I found. At it’s first test in 2010 it had a recorded mileage of 69K! in the following 4 tests it had mileages of 107K, 135K, 152k and 174k at the time of the test. Then there is a gap in the until 2017 when the test showed a recorded mileage of 22k. It then had 25k, 32k and 35k at the next 3 tests. I then used Mycarcheck to get more details and found that it has not been reported stolen, been a write off or had a number plate change, so now I am really confused. As I said at the start the vehicle looks to be in good condition and certainly not like it has covered a quarter of a million miles.
So my question is this. Could another vehicle, probably a hard used commercial Transit, have had its history accidently applied to this motorhome, and if that is the case is there any way to have it removed.
I don’t want to buy something which then proves impossible to sell in a few years.
