Vehicle failed it’s most recent MOT due to an insecure inner CV boot with an advisory for slight play in a track rod end.

The company called to advise of the failure and quoted over £800 to rectify, stating that it would be a ‘do not drive’ so if I was to get the work done elsewhere it would need to be recovered.

There was also no record of this on the MOT database before the phone call and after arguing it was reduced to a major and we were allowed to drive away.

2 questions-
would the database be updated immediately with an MOT failure? (It wasn’t online until later that evening).

Would an insecure clip on a CV boot ever justify a ‘dangerous’ fail?

Thanks
