ParticipantHi everyone,
anyone been on recent seminar yet?
Just been last night. New ideas they have for April 09 include;
1/ Number plates back in, but no BSI or names considered, they say just readable plates fitted?
2/ Tow bars are in, mainly checking for security and condition.
3/ VSI update, going to print relevant info.
4/ New training starting in April 09, they advise testers are to receive training every six months.
Anyone else got anything else interesting to add?:D

ParticipantThey never went into too much detail, but advised one day was doing practical based testing of vehicles, and the other was computerisation with the manuals, guides etc.
They also advised that the trainer also did a full mot test to show other testers how it is supposed to be carried out correctly, which i thought would be of value.
edited to say that one the evening the trainer seemed a pleasant chap to communicate with, which was a little better than the local VE?
In answer to this, it depends what you mean by what form the training would take?
The trainer said something like I think the first day is the computerisation and the manuals, he did say that VOSA do not expect testers to be experts with the manuals, but expect a tester to be able to find their way round them, and I suppose know what is in them. I suppose that is to see if testers use the manuals?
The second day a trainer show the testers how to test the vehicle, then I think the testers must be organised somehow into groups I suppose to each go round a vehicle and test it, I imagine?
What I do know for definate is this, ALL this new training starts beginning of April 09 and possibly a special notice to inform testers, the confusion is that if testers all have to go on a six monthly refresher that is twice a year, what happens to the five year 1 day?
I almost slept through mine as I’d just become a dad again and had to spend a night in A&E as the wife had high blood pressure. Got out the hospital about 5am and got to the course about half an hour late.
It’s worthwhile as you get to find out all the things they can’t be arsed putting into special notices such as new test standards to be applied (as opposed to another one telling you there’s a load of seminars coming up soon;))
Will it improve standards though and has the need for this arisen from their visits of the last 18 months? It’ll be interesting to know how they’re going to find the staff to do it as well as one of the few things you glean from the refresher course is how understaffed they are.
