[Note: Tester Training rules have changes since this article was posted].
In turn the AE has the power to nominate specially trained individuals to carry out MOT Testing on customers’ cars. So the official name for an MOT Tester is Nominated Tester (NT) because he or she has been nominated by the AE. It should be noted that this is why it is impossible for aspiring young MOT Testers to go to college and learn the profession – they have first to be trained at a Testing Garage and then ‘nominated’ by the AE.An aspiring Tester also has to have either a certain minimum formal qualification or sit a special examination set by DVSA before then going on a two-day course set up by DVSA to, as they say “calibrate his or her skills”.
Despite being ultimately fully responsible for all MOT Testing, DVSA have never published either a complete training programme or an approved syllabus to train MOT Testers).
Now that Tester Training rules have changed things aint improved & cars have changed significantly since the MOT test was first introduced. Using connected equipment lays the foundations for DVSA to prepare for any future changes to vehicle testing…..

ParticipantTHE AA: RAISING STANDARDS, NOT JUST IN EMERGENCIES.. AUTOTECHNICIAN visits the organistation that is also balancing independent, with working alongside vehicle manufacturers.
RECALLS
The DVSA’s Neil Barlow was present during our visit & explained that, because its online MOT check service experiences tens of millions of hits, its popularity could be utilised to make recall data more publically accessible. While he explained that there was no firm decision about whether, or not, independent garages will have to fail a car at MOT Test time, because of outstanding recall, he confirmed that the agency is working behind-the scenes to establish a new recalls code of practice that will be launched from November.https://autotechnician.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Autotechnician-Nov-Dec-2019.pdf

Recalls
Lobbying is an important part of the AA’s work and the current
hot topic of vehicle recalls affects both the aftermarket and
the OEM. The DVSA’s Neil Barlow was present during our visit
and explained that, because its online MOT check service
experiences tens of millions of hits, its popularity could be
utilised to make recall data more publically accessible. While he explained that there was no firm decision about whether, or not, independent garages will have to fail a car at MOT Test time, because of an outstanding recall, he confirmed that the agency is working behind-the-scenes to establish a new recalls code of practice that will be launched from November. This is to try and encourage manufacturers to be more proactive about informing the DVSA of a potential problem..hey ho anyone got the heads up?

we use MTS all the time.. Just figure as we cannot pause their annual assessment and you may be timed out when you try to reference ‘the mot testing service’ that it don’t add up?REF dyslexic 😯

ParticipantDyslexic.. easy using the manual but NOT on the testers guide different kettle of fish ????
The manual does not marry Dotted i and Crossed t with the MOT Testing service..
The MOT testing guide don’t marry with either & you gotta use Ctrl F

ParticipantOK we all know this..
2 Steering
2.6 Electronic power steering (EPS)2.6 (i) inconsistent = Major
2.6 (ii) inconsistent to the extent that the steering is adversely affected = Dangeroushad motor for test EPS light staying on, not extinguishing when running, represented for retest & light don’t work.
But no RFR on ‘MTS.. Electronic power steering: warning lamp
Indicates system malfunction 2.6 (a) BUT THE BULB/LED whatever been disabled, steering in test bay works. Could we not have Minor = EPS Electronic power steering: warning lamp not working.June 23, 2021 at 11:58 am #291297castrolrob
