Windscreen wipers that do not automatically park when turned off…  Is this a failure or an advise.

The ‘guide’ states that wipers NOT working automatically when switched ON should fail but does this also cover when they are switched OFF. To my way of thinking, there is still power to the parking circuit, so they are technically still ON. Possibility for failure #1.

Another aspect is that when switched OFF, the wiper(s) stop in an ‘unparked’ position, this would bring the ’10mm/40mm obstruction to the view’ clause. Possibility for failure #2.

If anyone has any views and/or comments on this, I would be grateful.

If you can make the wipers park in the right place by switching off at the right time, then it is a pass & advise:)

Thanks 911mot. That’s fine. It just raises the safety issue of concentrating on parking your wiper rather than what’s on the road ahead..:D

As far as the mot is concerned 911mot is correct.

From a safety point of view, you should really get them fixed.

Hi there—-I Had a chat with my VI a while ago about wipers not self parking, and he said that is not a reason for rejection. I hope this helped some of you.

Thats strange – it says this in the manual…..

Wiper Blades
Wiper blades that park automatically in a position that obscures the view through the windscreen are subject to reason for rejection 1

They should be treated as per 10mm obstruction in Zone A & 40mm in the remaining swept area.

Yeah… I’ve done some research also and it looks that if you can turn them off in a ‘normal’ parked position then there’s no reason to fail but if they AUTOMATICALLY park in an ‘abnormal’ position, then it’s a ‘fail’.

Does that sound correct ?

Thanks for all of your input.

It’s one of those items they’ve changed in the past couple of years. You know as they do from time to time and don’t bother to tell you aboutuntil you sit a refresher course or someone brings it up on here.:X

nothing new about it guy,4-5 years at least its been in there.if you can fiddle the switch on/off and get it to park out of view thats fine(think astra g)but if it parks in drivers view regardless then its a fail.was brought in originally to help cover all the silly little boy racers with a 10″ single wiper in the middle due to the lack of visibility caused(and the resulting accidents)
