    Hello,
the speedo in my car has stopped working for some reason so I have put in a digital GPS speedo. There arent any fault codes present. Would this pass the MOT or would it be a fail.
    Thank you!

we don’t actually check if the speedo is working or not so unless obviously defective it should pass(at least on most vehicles)with others a roadtest could be part of the mot at which point it could be spotted.

You must check the speedometer of vehicles first used on or after 1 October 1937 with a maximum speed above 25mph. Speedometers do not need to be lit 😯

Speedometers do not need to be lit on:

vehicles with no front or rear position lamps
vehicles that have front or rear positions lamps that are permanently disconnected, painted over or masked

the guys original query was whether his speedo would fail on not operating.could we stay with that?

I think it’s a valid point to note that under normal circumstances it is now a requirement for a speedo to be illuminated.

Whether its observed to be inoperative during the test or not is a whole different kettle of fish 😉
