One of the UK’s best-known MOT training and compliance providers, MOT Expert, is celebrating its 11th anniversary, marking more than a decade of helping garages, technicians and MOT testers across the country develop their skills and maintain compliance.

Founded in 2015, the Northampton-based company has grown from a specialist MOT training provider into a nationwide business offering training, consultancy, compliance services and garage management solutions. The milestone also marks five years under the ownership of husband-and-wife directors Ross and Leanne Laurence, who acquired the business in 2021 and have overseen a significant period of expansion.

Continued Growth

Since changing ownership, MOT Expert has invested heavily in its facilities and services. In 2024 the company relocated to a purpose-built training headquarters in Northampton, enabling it to increase capacity and expand the range of courses available to technicians, MOT testers and test centre managers.

Today, the business delivers more than 1,500 qualifications each year, with instructors collectively bringing over 140 years of MOT industry experience, including former DVSA Vehicle Examiners and experienced MOT professionals.

Beyond MOT Training

While many in the trade recognise MOT Expert for its accredited MOT training courses, the business has broadened its offering considerably in recent years.

Its services now include:

  • MOT Tester and Test Centre Manager qualifications
  • Annual MOT CPD training
  • Hybrid and electric vehicle training
  • MOT compliance consultancy
  • Garage management support
  • Integrated MOT CRM solutions

The company has also expanded its consultancy division, MOT Compliance Group, with consultants based across the UK, allowing it to support garages nationwide with DVSA compliance and operational best practice.

Supporting an Evolving Industry

The MOT sector continues to face significant change, from increasing numbers of electric vehicles entering the vehicle parc to evolving DVSA requirements and digitalisation within test centres.

Training providers play an increasingly important role in ensuring testers remain compliant while adapting to new technologies and legislative changes. As annual assessment requirements, hybrid vehicle safety and evolving inspection procedures become more important, ongoing professional development has become essential for garages of all sizes.

Businesses such as MOT Expert have responded by expanding both their technical training programmes and compliance support services, reflecting the wider shift towards continuous learning within the automotive aftermarket.

Looking Ahead

As MOT Expert enters its twelfth year, its focus remains on innovation, compliance, technician development and supporting garages throughout the UK.

With continued investment in training facilities, nationwide consultancy services and digital solutions for MOT stations, the company appears well positioned to continue supporting an industry that is evolving faster than ever.

For the wider aftermarket, milestones such as this highlight not only the success of an individual business but also the growing importance of high-quality training and compliance support in maintaining standards across the UK’s MOT network.
